Hrunting, The Sword of Beowulf Pewter Necklace by PEPI Pewter

Original design by artist Chris Bennett

In pagan Europe one of a man’s few cherished possessions was his sword while most everything else; land, livestock, houses, was owned by the women. A knight’s sword was the Defender of Light against the forces of darkness; symbolizing Purification, Spiritual Evolution, the all conquering Spirit, as well as the Magical Power to fight off Evil. During the middle ages, the sword was seen as a symbol of death and psychic strength as well as a symbol of the Spirit and the Word of God.

We have named our amulet “Hrunting” after the Ancient Royal Sword given to Beowulf for his epic fight with Grendel’s mother. After the titanic battle, Grendel, the first and elemental evil, is beheaded his head is taken by the triumphant Beowulf as a trophy. Our concept of “Hrunting,” the Royal Sword of Beowulf, has the skull of the Evil Grendel as the hilt of this magical sword.

This fine pewter pendant is cast by hand in the USA and beautifully finished on a black satin cord with pewter accent bead. Pendant is 2 3/8 inch high and 3/4 inch wide.

Origin Hand made in the USA
Pewter Pewter is a malleable metal alloy, traditionally 85–99% tin, with the remainder consisting of copper and other metals. It has a low melting point and is very easy to cast in molds. It has been used since ancient times for everything from jewelry to table wear and was once called the "poor mans silver". Generally pewter has a grayish/silver semi-dull finish, though this varies depending on the metals combined with the tin and can be colored black or other shades or plated with gold or silver. All our pewter pieces are lead and nickel free. Pewter is generally hypo-allergenic and will not tarnish or react in most conditions. Note it can break or crack if flexed multiple times and rings cannot be re-sized, though interior ring springs or other adjusters might be used.
