Samael is regarded as both good and evil.
Samael literally Means ‘The Venom Of God’. He Is known as The Accuser, The Seducer, and The Destroyer. His purpose is to bring death to humanity. He is often accorded with Satan because he often has grim and destructive duties. He is also considered a fallen angel, like Satan and the chief of the evil spirits. One of Samael's roles in Jewish beliefs is that of the Angel of Death. In this belief, he is a fallen angel but remains one of the Lord's servants. Good and evil have no real meaning for the Grim Reaper.
The sigil of the Archangel Samael is used to invoke his knowledge of theology and power of protection. Samael is the protector of preachers among foreign nations and as such was the angel who accompanied Saint John through the desert offering guidance and protection before his preaching.
