Turquoise Lotus Triple Drop Earrings by Museum Reproductions

Ancient Egypt, one of the richest and most advanced of the early civilizations, appeared on the stage of history around 3100 B.C. (Dynasty I). Hieroglyphic scripts and tomb decorations document the Egyptians' belief in the after-life, their mythology and deities. Jewelry was often worn as protective talismans. Gold was believed to reflect the life-giving rays of the sun. The color and brilliance of gem stones traditionally determined their value and religious significance.

Stone Properties
Turquoise	Turquoise is an opaque, blue-to-green mineral that is a hydrous phosphate of copper and aluminium. It is rare and valuable in finer grades and has been prized as a gem and ornamental stone for thousands of years owing to its unique hue. It has been used in jewelry and decorative uses thru the ages in Ancient Egypt as well as in many native American crafts.
Materials
Gold Vermeil	Vermeil is a combination of sterling silver, gold, and other precious metals, commonly used as a component in jewelry. A typical example is sterling silver coated with 14 carat (58%) gold. To be considered vermeil, the gold must be at least 10 carat (42%) and be at least 2.5 micrometres thick. Vermeil can be produced by either fire-gilding or electrolysis. Today, vermeil is safely produced by electrolysis. It is very durable with normal wear but as with all plating methods, it can be worn away in reaction with some people or chemicals
Surgical Steel	Surgical steel or surgical stainless steel is a specific type of stainless steel, used in medical and jewelry applications, made out of several components: chromium, nickel (or titanium) and molybdenum. It is easy to clean and sterilize, strong, and corrosion-resistant. It is often used for pierced jewelry posts and wires as it does not cause allergic reactions other metals might in some individuals.
